“Nothing” – A Prayer Poem

Lately I’ve been helped in my walk with the Lord through good poets, especially Mary Oliver, R. S. Thomas, and K. J. Ramsey. I wanted to share one with you. The poem below is by K. J. Ramsey. It’s based on Jesus’s words in Matthew 17:20.

The Passage: 

He said to them . . . For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you” (Matthew 17:20). 

The Prayer Poem:

Jesus,

you who blessed faith
as small as a seed:

reveal the mystery
of faith’s abundance
in meekness not might,

that in ourselves
and those we meet
we too would
bless the bravery
of starting off small.

Amen.
