Hey everyone, I’d like to restart my “Three Things I Liked This Week” series, where I share three things from my week that either interested me, stirred my soul, or commanded my attention.
Here’s what I got for this week:
First, Trevin Wax’s article: ‘Hoppers’ and the World We’ve Stopped Seeing
Second, the following lines from K. J. Ramsey’s The Book of Common Courage:
have courage
to be a beginner
entrust your time
to telling a tale
in which the ending is veiled.
build patience
for the harsh voice inside:
she is still a child who believes
perfection is the prerequisite
to belonging.
over and over
I find that behind
every voice of fear in my head
is a child who needs a friend.
Third, I loved this line from one of my all-time favorite books on pastoral ministry – Coleman Ford and Shawn Wilhite, Ancient Wisdom for the Care of Souls: Learning the Art of Pastoral Ministry from the Church Fathers.
“In considering the pains and spiritual needs of the soul, we must traverse well beyond the first and second layers of spiritual concerns to excavate anxieties that reside deeper in—far closer to the inner core of one’s identity. Soul care focuses on the inward, invisible features of one’s soul with the goal of drawing out what is hidden and displaying Christian virtue” (80).
